Before You Start

For the Windows Computer

Once you have successfully installed the QB software on your Windows computer, you will need to activate it before starting. To do, so, you will notice a screen that appears to activate the software. For the manual activation, you will need to follow the below steps:

  • Open QB and click on ‘F2’ on your keyboard
  • You will receive a ‘Product Information’ window where the user will have to check out the registration status. This will be located on the right-hand side of the ‘License Number’. 
  • Once the QB reads ‘ACTIVATED’, you are all set. 
  • If not, you need to follow a few more steps:
    • Click on the ‘OK’ tab to close the ‘Product Information window.
    • Next, locate and click the ‘HELP’ menu and click on the ‘Activate QuickBooks’ option available. 
    • In case you are dealing with the 2016 version, you will have to click on ‘Register QuickBooks’.
    • Now, you simply have to follow the screen prompts and verify the details required. This will end the Activation Process. 

For the Mac Users 

In case you are a MAC user you will need to follow the below steps for the activation process:

  • Click open QB to go to the MENU tab. 
  • Next, locate and click on the ‘Register QuickBooks’ option available
  • You will need to type ‘License Number’ and the ‘Product Number’ into the Information dialogue box that pops up and clicks on the ‘NEXT’ tab. 
  • Now, select on ‘Register Online’ option. 
  • Lastly, all you need to do is follow the onscreen prompts and finish the registration process. 
  • There are chances that the Register option does not appear, this means that the software has already been registered previously)

For the QuickBooks Desktops 2016 and Earlier Versions

In case you are dealing with the older versions from that before 2016, you need to know that Intuit has been discontinued. You need to know that discontinued products cannot be registered for the first time.  

However, it is possible to re-register the discontinued products as well, in case they were previously registered and are undergoing the process of current re-installations. The Validation Code can be acquired from reliable sources for doing so. 

When Running a QB Desktop Installation Diagnostic Tool From the QuickBooks Hub:

There is a chance that the installation process of the QB application might be interfering with the activation process of your license  This can be easily resolved as you run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. For this you will need to:

  • Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub, and select the Installation Issues from the program. 
  • Next, click on the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool from the Tool Hub and run it. This can take up to 20 -minutes to complete. 
  • After the process is complete you need to Close the TOOL hub and ReStart the computer back on. 
  • Finally, Open the QuickBooks Desktop Application and click open the Data file to Retry the activation process. 
  • You will be able to resolve the issue with the above steps. 

Things to Keep In Mind When Registering or Activating the QuickBooks Desktops

  • There are times when the information entered by you might not get ‘accepted’. For this, you will need to verify if the data entered by you is the same that was provided by you at the time of purchase. 
  • There are times when you might encounter a Blank Screen or an Error Message, you might want to disable the ANTIVIRUS temporarily to rectify the issue.
