The QuickBooks Error 6177 happens when you are accessing the company file and that is not on the location and it causes you the error. This displays a message on the screen:-

“QuickBooks is attempting to open this company file”

Update your QuickBooks Desktop

You can update it automatically by doing the settings in your account. So the steps are as follows:-

  1. First of all, close all the company file and QuickBooks also in your system
  2. Click on the Start menu and locate QuickBooks Desktop
  3. After that, right-click on the QuickBooks icon
  4. Then from further options click on the Run as Administrator
  5. In QuickBooks, click on the Help menu
  6. Further, select the Update QuickBooks Desktop
  7. Click on the button Update Now. In this, also tick mark the checkbox that says Reset update that clear all the downloads that you have done before
  8. Click on the Get Updates
  9. It starts downloading the updates in your system
  10. After completing the update download, reboot your system
  11. If the pop-up came to your screen then select the option to accept it so that you can continue to install the latest release

Update the File Location Also

Move your company file to the location

  1. Open the File Explorer in your system
  2. In File Explorer, go to the search bar that is on the right-side
  3. In the search field, type QuickBooks to search for their folders in your system
  4. Now locate the file with the extension .qbw
  5. Then note down the location with you and save it
  6. After that, move the QuickBooks Company File from this location to the other location that is C: drive.

Create the company file that is portable and then restore it to the server

  1. First of all, open your QuickBooks Desktop software
  2. Then click on the option Open and Restore an existing Company
  3. You have to search for the company file and then open it that you want to move
  4. Create a portable company file. This step helps you in creating the company file in a portable version. it also reset the location of your file
  5. In QuickBooks, click on the File menu option
  6. Then click on the option Quit QuickBooks that is shown in the drop-down options
  7. Open the QuickBooks again in your system
  8. Go to the File menu and from further options, select the Open or Restore Company option
  9. Click on the Restore a portable file option
  10. After that, click on the Next button
  11. Find the company file with .qbw extension that it is a portable file and select it
  12. Then click on the Open button and then click the Next button
  13. To get the restore location, do select the drive from where you just move your company file
  14. Click on the option Save

  16. Click on the File menu again, then click on the Quit QuickBooks that is running on your system.

Fix the Path of the File Manually

Locate the ND file in the system

  1. First of all, open the File Explorer in your system that is your server system
  2. Then search for the folder of QuickBooks
  3. Now locate the company file with your company name that is saved with .nd extension
  4. Right-click on that file and click on the Delete option
  5. Now you are done.

Set the QuickBooks Database Server Manager

  1. If you don’t have the QuickBooks Database Server Manager in your system
  2. Then download and install it first in your system
  3. After that, go to the Start menu and in the Search field type Database and then open the QuickBooks Database
  4. Server Manager
  5. Choose the folder of QuickBooks that includes all your Company Files
  6. Now, click on the Start Scan to verify all the files and folders for issues
  7. When the scan is done it shows you the list of issues if any then click on the Fix button to fix the problems
  8. Then click on the Close button
  9. You have to set the folder permissions for sharing the files of QuickBooks
