Uninstall Canon printer driver windows 10 – QuickBooks

Uninstall Canon printer driver windows 10 - QuickBooks

If you use a laptop while on the go, there’s a good chance you connect to a lot of printers in various locations that you might only use occasionally. You might unknowingly accumulate many installed printers on your computer over time.

Yes, using the Settings app you can remove the devices you do not need. However, you might not be aware that removing a printer from Windows 10 doesn’t remove its driver. If you ever need them again, they will continue to be kept in a local inventory. Even though it’s a good strategy for quickly reinstalling printers, deleting the driver can help you stay organized, free up some space, and fend off (possible) printer driver issues.

One of the most essential pieces of equipment in a business office is a printer, so when it breaks down, productivity may suffer. Uninstalling the printer drivers and either rolling them back to a previous version or installing updated drivers is one of the initial steps in troubleshooting printer errors. A Canon printer’s drivers can be removed in a matter of minutes.

You will discover how to completely remove printer drivers from your Windows 10 device in this guide.

How to completely remove a printer from Windows 10

It takes two steps to uninstall a printer and its driver from your computer. To delete the driver files using the Printer Management app or PowerShell, you must first uninstall the printer from Windows.

Step 1: Remove the printer by using Settings

  • In Windows 10, follow these steps to remove a printer:
  • in Windows 10’s Settings.
  • Decide on Devices.
  • Pick Printers & Scanners from the menu.
  • Select the printer you wish to uninstall from the “Printers & scanners” section.
  • the button labelled “Remove device.”
  • Select Yes from the menu.

You can remove the driver from your computer after you’ve finished the steps. As an alternative, imagine that the computer runs Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. If so, you can remove the printer by right-clicking it and choosing the Remove device option in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.

Step 2: Delete the printer driver using Print Management

Follow these steps to delete a printer driver:

  • Launch Start.
  • Open the console by performing a search for “Control Panel” and clicking the top result.
  • On the System and Security tab, click.
  • On the Administrative Tools menu, click.
  • To edit print settings, double-click that menu item.
  • Increase the Custom Filters branch.
  • The left navigation pane’s All Drivers link should be clicked.
  • In the context menu, choose Delete from the printer driver’s right-click menu.
  • Press the Yes button.

The driver will be removed from the computer once you’ve finished the steps. Repeat the procedure for each additional printer you want to completely remove from the device.

Step 3: Using PowerShell, remove the printer driver

The Print Management app is not available in Windows 10 Home, but you can still uninstall the driver quite simply using PowerShell. These guidelines are also applicable to Windows 10 Pro.

Use these steps to remove a print driver using PowerShell:

  • Launch Start.
  • Right-click the first result from your search for PowerShell and choose “Run as administrator.”
  • To view a list of every print driver installed on Windows 10 type the command below and hit Enter: Get-PrinterDriver | List-Name Format
  • To uninstall the print driver, type the following command and hit Enter.
  • “Your-Printer-Name” as the value for Remove-PrinterDriver
  • Update the printer name in the command to the name that appears in step No. 3. If the name contains spaces, quotation marks are necessary.

The printer driver won’t be available on the system after you finish the steps. If you need to uninstall additional printers on Windows 10, you might need to repeat these steps.

Using the Uninstaller to Remove:

1: From the [] (Start) menu, select [Control Panel].

For Windows 10:

  • Choose [Settings] > [System] > [Apps & features] > Click [Uninstall] in the driver’s uninstaller. move on to step 3.
  • For Windows 8/8.1, Server 2012, and Server 2012 R2:
  • Click [Settings] > [Control Panel] to display the charm bar on the [Desktop] screen.

2: Select the uninstaller for the driver you want to remove by clicking [Programs] > [Uninstall a program] and then [Uninstall] or [Uninstall/Change].

For Windows Vista/Server 2008:

  • Click [Programs] > [Programs and Features] Select [Uninstall a program] and the driver’s uninstaller, then click [Uninstall].

[Clean up]: By selecting this, you will simultaneously remove all files and registry records associated with every driver shown in the list, not just the one you’ve chosen. For a standard uninstallation of the driver, click [Delete].

4: Select [Yes] if the “Confirm deletion” message appears.
5: Select [Exit] from the [Delete Printer] screen.

To reinstall the printer driver, adhere to the steps below:

IMPORTANT:

  • Before installing, close all open programs.
  • As the administrator, you must sign in (or a member of the Administrators group).
  • Never change users while the installation is running.
  • During the installation process, it might be necessary to restart your computer. Avoid removing the Setup CD-ROM while restarting and follow the on-screen instructions. When your computer is restarted, the installation picks up where it left off.
  • Disconnect the printer.
  • Connect the computer and printer together with the printer cable.
  • Start Windows after turning on the computer.
  • Enter the CD-ROM drive with the Canon Software Setup and User’s Guide. Automatic start of setup.

To finish installing the printer driver, click “OK.”

To remove the printer, first stop the print spooler.

Stop the print spooler service and check to see if you can remove the printer without it interfering with your removal efforts. The print spooler service can be restarted following the removal of the printer.

  • To open the Run box, press Windows and R simultaneously.
  • Enter the following command: services.msc into the Run box.
  • The Services window is where you can find the Print Spooler service.
  • Choose Stop from the menu when you right-click the Print Spooler service.
  • Don’t close the Services window.
  • To disconnect the printer from your PC, use the Settings app.
  • Return to the Services window after your printer has been taken out.
  • Then, select Start from the context menu when you right-click the Print Spooler service.

Print jobs should be cleared before removing the printer.

Your printer may still have pending print jobs, which could be the cause of your inability to unplug it from your Windows 10 or 11 computer. Prior to uninstalling the printer, you should finish up these print jobs.

  • Click View devices and printers in Control Panel to do this.
  • Right-click your printer and select Check the menu to see what is printing.
  • In the newly opened window, cancel each print job.
  • Utilize the Settings app to uninstall your printer as previously described.

To remove a printer, use Device Manager:

Using Device Manager, you can delete almost any device from your computer, including printers. To use this tool to get rid of your obstinate printer, follow these steps:

  • Device Manager can be found in the search results when you open the Start menu and select it.
  • When viewing the Device Manager window, choose View > Show hidden devices. Your printer will be included on the list as a result.
  • Locate your printer in the Printers section, then select Uninstall device from the context menu.
  • Select Uninstall after enabling the Delete the driver software for this device option.
  • Your printer will be gone after a PC reboot.

Before uninstalling the printer, update the printer drivers:

You might not be able to uninstall your printer from your PC if your printer drivers are out-of-date. Update your printer’s drivers first, then attempt to take the printer out of the picture to fix this.

  • On PCs running Windows 10 or 11, fortunately, you can automatically update the drivers for your printer:
  • In the Printers section of Device Manager, locate your printer.
  • Select Update Driver from the menu when you right-click your printer.
  • On the screen that follows, choose Search automatically for drivers.
  • Activate Windows’ ability to look for and install the most recent printer drivers.
  • When the drivers are set up, restart your computer.
  • For your PC’s printer to be unplugged, use the Settings app.

Remove a Printer by Using the Print Server Properties Window:

The Print Server Properties window can be used to get rid of your installed printers if Settings is unable to do so. You can select the printer you want to remove from your system from a list of all your printers in this window.

On Windows 10 and 11:

  • Select Control Panel from the search results after opening the Start menu and looking for it.
  • On the Control Panel window, click View devices and printers.
  • Locate and pick your printer.
  • At the top of your screen, select Print server properties.
  • Select your printer from the list under the Drivers tab, then choose Remove at the bottom.
  • When the prompt appears, select Remove driver and driver package and press OK.
  • Your printer should be gone after restarting your computer.

To remove the printer, uninstall the printer’s software:

It’s possible that the printer software you installed on your computer is interfering with the removal of your printer. In this situation, try removing the printer first, then uninstall the printer software.

  • By pressing Windows + I, the Settings app will be launched.
  • On the Settings window, click Apps.
  • Select the software for your printer from the list after finding it.
  • Select the software’s Uninstall button.
  • To uninstall the software, choose Uninstall in the prompt.
  • To unplug your printer from your PC, follow the above instructions for using the Settings app.
