Causes of.NET Runtime Error 1026:

The investigation into this issue revealed that the.NET Runtime Error 1026 could be caused by a variety of factors.

Here is a list of potential causes for this error:

If this problem occurs repeatedly in Event Viewer, the.NET Framework installation is most likely broken. In this case, the.NET Repair Tool is the quickest way to resolve the issue.

Launchpad.exe and Windows Update are incompatible:

This issue previously appeared because of a bad Windows Update that broke the way Launchpad.exe worked. Users who experienced the issue reported that they were able to resolve it by granting the admin account full access to the user’s folder and renaming the Launchpad.exe executable.

Windows Media Installation Went Wrong:

This issue may occur in some cases due to a partially broken dependency on Windows Media Player. If this is the case, you should be able to resolve the issue by reinstalling the WMP package through the Windows Features program.

10 Solution Ten: Renaming the Launchpad.exe (if necessary):

As it turns out, this error is the result of a new Windows Update that broke an existing Windows 10 functionality. Although the.NET Runtime Error 1026 error does not necessarily point to this potential culprit, several affected users have confirmed that they were able to obtain Full Control permissions for the Users directory and rename the Launchpad.exe to something else to prevent Windows from using it.

Note: If you have multiple user accounts on this computer, you must repeat this process for each user listed in the C:Users directory.

If you haven’t already tried this method, follow the steps below to get Full Control permissions in the Users directory and rename the main Launchpad executable:

As of now, this solution has only been confirmed to work for Windows 10.

  • Start by ensuring that the current user account is an administrator.
  • Next, navigate to your OS drive’s root directory (most likely C:/), right-click on the Users folder, and select Properties from the context menu that appears.
  • Once inside the Properties screen, go to the Security tab, select the Administrators group from the drop-down menu, and then click Edit.

Note: To grant administrative privileges, click Yes when prompted by the UAC (User Account Control Prompt).

  • Select the Administrators tab in the Permissions for Users window and check the Allow box associated with Full Control.
  • Click Apply to save the changes and confirm that you have Full Control access to the Users folder.
  • Return to File Explorer and navigate to the View tab using the ribbon at the top. Check the box next to Hidden Items from the contextual menu that just appeared.
  • Next, navigate to the following location in File Explorer:
  • C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation
  • When you’re inside, look for an executable called Launchpad_XXX.exe.
  • Please keep in mind that XXX is just a placeholder. You will see a random number of characters in your case.
  • If you can locate the correct executable, simply rename it or append the.old extension to the end of the name. This will force Windows to ignore this file and create a new healthy equivalent that should not cause the same problem.
  • Open Event Viewer and check to see if the problem has been resolved.
  • If you’re still seeing new instances of the.NET Runtime Error 1026, proceed to the next possible solution below.

11. Solution Eleven: Windows Media Player Reinstallation:

If you receive this error when attempting to launch an application or game that requires a Windows Media Player dependency, you may be able to resolve the problem by reinstalling the local installation of Windows Media Player.

You can usually tell if this scenario applies by looking at the Event ID log file. If it mentions Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Media.MediaQueue.Play or something else, this fix will most likely solve the problem.

Several affected users have confirmed that they were able to prevent the appearance of new instances of the.NET Runtime Error 1026 error by reinstalling the entire Windows Media Player component via the Programs and Features menu.

If you haven’t tried this before, follow the steps below:

  1. To open the Run dialog box, press the Windows key + R. Enter ‘appwiz.cpl’ into the text box and press Enter to bring up the Programs and Features menu.
  2. Turn Windows features on or off once you’re in the Programs and Features menu. When the UAC (User Account Control) prompts you, click Yes to grant admin access.
  3. Once inside the Windows Features menu, scroll down the list of features and expand the Media Features drop-down menu.
  4. To effectively disable Windows Media Player, uncheck the box associated with it and then click Ok. To confirm the operation, select Yes at the confirmation prompt.
  5. Wait until the operation is finished, then restart your computer to allow it to boot without the WMP components.
  6. Return to the Windows Features screen by following steps 1 through 3, then check the box associated with Windows Media Player (under Media Features) to re-enable, confirm the operation, and wait for the process to finish.
  7. Examine Event Viewer to see if there are any new instances of.NET Runtime Error 1026.

Conclusion:

Errors occur without warning at runtime. The error message may appear whenever.NET Framework is run. In fact, if you do not respond to the error message or other dialogue box right away, it may persist.

Files may disappear or reappear at times. Although this symptom is usually caused by a virus, it can also be an indication of a runtime error, as viruses are one of the causes of runtime errors. Users may also notice a drop in Internet connection speed, though this is not always the case. If you have any problems, please contact our expert team.
