Additional Solution to Fix Sage Runtime Error in Sage 50

Here’s what to do if you encounter this error while using Sage 50, the accounting solution offered by the same company. The error you’ll receive states “Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library. Runtime error!”

Method 1: Use the Peach.exe to update tax forms

If you cannot install the latest tax updates because of a sage runtime error, then you can use the additional utility provided by the company to manually install the latest tax form updates. These updates are available for free and anyone with an active subscription to Sage Payroll can install the update on their system. Because the file size for the Updater is quite small, you can quickly download and install this program.

  1. Exit Sage 50 after saving your data.
  2. Download the update for tax forms from the Aatrix tax forms link.
  3. Double-click on the Peach.exe file, and click on Yes to confirm that you want to install this program.
  4. Choose Yes to All.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest updates for tax forms.
  6. Launch Sage 50 and check for the latest tax forms and the Sage Runtime Error.

Once you are done installing the latest tax form updates, you can start using the latest text forms to file your taxes online. But if you still get sage runtime errors, then you may have to uninstall the updates and then reinstall them to fix any broken components. Doing so is especially important when you start receiving the sage runtime error immediately after the installation of the latest tax form update.

Method 2: Reinstall tax forms using the Peach.exe file

Users who start receiving the sage runtime error immediately after installing the latest tax form update should reinstall these updates to fix any broken components. Any damaged file can block Sage 50 from quickly interpreting the data so in such a case you will receive an error immediately. You need to log into an administrator account on Windows to reinstall these tax updates smoothly.

Steps to reinstall tax forms to fix Sage runtime error:

  1. Exit Sge 50.
  2. Download the update for tax forms from the Aatrix tax forms link.
  3. Double-click on the Peach.exe file, and click on Yes to confirm that you want to install this program.
  4. Choose the Remove option and follow the instructions to uninstall the updates for tax forms.
  5. Launch the program once again, and this time install the updates for the tax form.
  6. Launch Sage 50 and check for the latest tax forms and the Sage Runtime Error.

You should download the tax update form once again because the previous one may have some damage in it because of which it installed broken components on your system. Further, you should check your system for malicious software by scanning it with good security software.

Method 3: Disable Windows Firewall

Windows Defender firewall blocks malicious software from accessing your internet connection. It is an essential program that protects your system from viruses and malware. However, when you install a new program on your system, you need to configure a firewall to allow it through the security blocks so that the program can easily access the internet connection. If you think that the Windows firewall is causing the sage runtime error on your system, then you can temporarily disable the Windows firewall and check if the error still occurs.

Temporarily turn off Windows firewall and other security programs:

  1. Go to the start menu, then settings.
  2. Click on Update & Security.
  3. Click on Windows Security.
  4. Choose Firewall & Network Protection.
  5. Choose among the following three options:
    • Domain network
    • Private network
    • Public network
  6. Go to Microsoft Defender Firewall and Click on Off.
  7. Try to open the Sage 50 company file that you get the error with.
  8. Follow the aforementioned steps once again and turn the Windows firewall on.

Once you have verified that the runtime error has been fixed, you can create permanent rules using the advanced options in Windows Firewall. These advanced options enable you to set inbound and outbound rules for specific ports to allow the selected programs to access those sports.

Steps to open the ports for Windows Defender firewall to fix Sage 50 network issues:

  1. Go to the Start menu and type in Cmd.
  2. Right-click on the Command Prompt option and select Run as Administrator.
  3. Run the following command in the command line: netsh advfirewall firewall Add rule name=”Sage 50 port range” dir=in protocol=tcp localport=13530-13580 action=allow.
  4. Launch Sage 50 and try to connect to the database. If you don’t get the Sage 50 network error, then proceed with the steps below.
  5. Go to the Start menu and type in Windows Firewall. Launch the Firewall settings.
  6. Click on Advanced Settings from the left panel.
  7. Choose Inbound rules, then click on New.
  8. Choose Port, then Next.
  9. Type in the port numbers that you want Firewall to treat as exceptions:
    1. Launch Windows Explorer.
    2. Go to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Sage Software\ConnectionManager\.
    3. Double-click on the ConnectionManager.ini file and choose Notepad as the program to open the file with.
    4. Note down the PORT NUMBER in the line “End Port = xxxxxx”
    5. Enter the port number 13531, XXXXXX in the firewall rules window.
  10. Choose Next.
  11. Click on Allow the Connection, then on Next.
  12. Mark both the Domain and Private options. Then click on Next.
  13. Input the name for the firewall rule as “Sage 50 inbound rule”, then click on Finish.
  14. Use the same steps to create an outbound firewall rule for Sage 50.

Method 4: Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++

Microsoft Visuals is an important component for running Sage 50 smoothly on your system. If any of the files related to the component are damaged or missing then you will receive a sage runtime error. Because of problems with these components, the accounting software may crash as soon as you launch it. One easy way to fix these components is to use the repair feature built into the Windows operating system. When you go to the control panel and choose to change the program you can choose the repair option and fix all the damaged files and replace the missing files in the folder for the component.

Here are the steps to reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ on your system:

  1. Log into a Windows admin account.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Choose Programs & Features > Uninstall a Program.
  4. Select Microsoft Visual C++ and click on Uninstall/Change from the top toolbar.
  5. Follow instructions from the installer to uninstall the program.
  6. Repeat the steps for each edition of the Microsoft Visual C++ installed on your system.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Download the setup for all these editions of Microsoft Visual C++ required by Sage 50 to run smoothly.
  9. Launch each setup to install the program so that Sage 50 can use the components to execute tasks without crashing.

Method 5: Start in Selective Startup Mode

Safe mode and selective startup mode are two great options to quickly and easily find out if any particular component in Windows is creating the sage runtime error. For instance, if the installation of new software on your system is causing the sage runtime error, then you can start your system in selective startup mode or safe mode so that the service creating the problem isn’t automatically launched when you log into your user account.

Steps to run Sage 50 by launching Windows in Selective Startup mode:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu.
  2. Click on Run.
  3. Enter MSConfig, then hit Enter.
  4. In the General tab, choose Selective Startup, then Load System Services.
  5. From the services tab, click on Hide all Microsoft Services.
  6. Click on Disable All to ensure that no third-party service starts automatically when you log into Windows to install the updates in Sage 50.
  7. Click on OK, then Restart your system.

You can switch back to normal startup mode with the steps given below:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and choose Run.
  2. Enter MSConfig and hit enter.
  3. From the General tab, click on Normal Startup.
  4. Click on OK, then Restart your system.

Before you switch back to the selective startup mode, you should uninstall any service that is creating the sage runtime error. You can also stop the service from running automatically on startup if uninstalling the program related to the service isn’t possible.

Sage runtime error has a variety of causes, making it very difficult for users to troubleshoot the error and fix it. You can start by fixing some of the components that may be damaged and then installing the necessary updates required to fix the problem. You can also try to run your system in safe mode to prevent any third-party software or service from interfering with Sage 50.

  1. Should I reinstall Sage 50 desktop to start the software if it doesn’t reboot after downloading the updates?

Reinstalling sage 50 does not have any impact on the sage runtime error because the issue occurs from problems with various components that the accounting software relies on. So instead you should reinstall these components so that you can fix the underlying cause of the error and troubleshoot and successfully resolve sage runtime error.

  2. Can I manually download and install the updates for Sage 50?

Yes, you can. We have mentioned the steps to manually download and install the updates for the latest payroll tax forms. In the latest version of Sage 50, you don’t even need to have a payroll subscription in order to install these tax forms and use them to file your taxes. However, you will have to pay an additional fee for each of the tax forms you file.

  3. What is the difference between repair and clean installation?

When you perform a clean and install of a component or software, it is first removed from your system and then reinstalled. In this process, you lose all of the preferences and settings that you created for that software because all the files related to it are deleted. The repair function on the other hand simply looks at all of the program files that may be damaged and replaces them with new ones so that all the damaged components can be fixed easily. In most cases, users don’t need to reinstall a software and can simply use the repair feature to troubleshoot and fix the error.

  4. Can installing the latest updates for Windows fix Sage Runtime Error?

Microsoft often addresses any reported errors and issues by releasing patches to fix these problems. When you install and update you make the windows platform more stable and secure and you also address the various problems that you encountered because of the past updates. You can also install the optional updates that are generally meant for various components and windows instead of the operating system itself. When sage runtime error is caused by an operating system problem or by a component problem, then installing the essential and optional updates may be able to resolve the error for you.

  5. Can I install the tax form updates manually instead of from inside Sage 50?

Yes, you can. We have provided these steps to quickly install the payroll updates manually by downloading the Updater from the official website of the program. Manually updating it is easy because it is simply like installing software on your system.

  6. How can I repair the files for utilities in Windows to fix Sage Runtime Error?

You can go to the control panel and choose the uninstall option in windows. From there you can choose the repair option instead of uninstalling to fix the components in your operating system. After going through the repair process you can restart your system so that the applied changes can take effect.
