  3. Select Check Now.
  4. Click on Download.
  5. Once download completes, restart Sage 50.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of Sage 50.
  7. Go to the Sage 50 folder on the server.
  8. Double-click on ClientInstall.bat.
  9. Wait for the updates to be installed on all connected workstations.

Solution 1: Verify Server Name and IP Address

Steps to Verify that you have entered the correct Server Name or IP Address on your WorkStation.

  1. Locate “..\MAS90\Launcher”folder on your system.
  2. Open file ini.
  3. Locate the Server. After the text: “1=”, the Server Name or IP Address will be mentioned
  4. If the Server Name and IP Address are incorrect, enter the correct IP Address or Server Name.
  5. Uninstall and then reinstall the system’s setup.
  6. Now, check that the port is not open by the Firewall. The port should be open.
  7. Verify the Server Name or IP Address and port were correctly entered in the boxes.
  8. In the Windows Firewall, you need to Create an Inbound rule for the PVXWIN32.exe process.
  9. Navigate to Control Panel and open it–> click on Administrative Tools –> go to Windows firewall –> click on Advanced settings
  10. Right-click on Inbound Rules and click on New Rule
  11. Open Program, click on Next
  12. Now, open “This program path:”and then browse to <drive letter>\..\mas90\home\pvxwin32.exe(e. C:\Sage\MAS90\Home\pvxwin32.exe) on server
  13. Now, click on Next till you do not get to the “Specify the name and Description of this Rule” screen
  14. Then, Enter the Name of the Rule
  15. Now, click on Finish.

Solution 2: Create Exceptions for Sage 50 in Windows Firewall

First, verify that the windows firewall is preventing Sage 50 from connecting to the server. You can do this by disabling Windows Firewall using the steps given below:

  1. Go to the start menu, then settings.
  2. Click on Update & Security.
  3. Click on Windows Security.
  4. Choose Firewall & Network Protection.
  5. Choose among the following three options:
    1. Domain network
    2. Private network
    3. Public network
  6. Go to Microsoft Defender Firewall and Click on Off.
  7. Try to open the Sage 50 company file that you get the error with.
  8. Follow the aforementioned steps once again and turn the windows firewall on.

Now you have to create the rules for Windows Firewall. These are custom rules so you need to create them through the Advanced Firewall Options. You can later edit and delete these rules without any problems. Further, you’ll have to create an exception for each executable file of Sage 50 that requires access to the network connection.

Steps to create firewall rules to list Sage 50 files as an exception:

  1. In the Start menu’s search bar, type in Windows Defender Firewall. Then hit enter.
  2. Choose Advanced Settings from the left panel.
  3. Click on the Inbound Rules option that is given in the left pane.
  4. Move your mouse to the right pane, and Choose New.
  5. Select the radio button against Port, then click on Next.
  6. Enter the specific Port numbers assigned to your version of Sage 50 accounting software, and then click on Next.
  7. From the available options, choose the ratio button against Allow the connection, and then click on Next.
  8. Choose Private as the Domain Option, and then choose Next.
  9. Enter a descriptive name for the firewall rule, a name such as “Sage 50 accounting inbound.
  10. Click on Finish.
Note: these descriptive names help you to identify the custom rules that you create in the future.
  11. Go through the same steps to create an Outbound Rule instead of an inbound rule.

Solution 3: Verify the correct program file and data file path

When you launch a company file, Sage 50 looks for the file in the specified directory. However, if you change the directory without first changing the same in Sage 50, then the program will crash immediately. The problem, in this case, will still appear as if the software cannot connect to the server. But this is hardly the case. The software, instead, has connected to the server but cannot locate the data file in the specified location. An easy way to fix this problem is to move the data file to the default location.

Here are the steps to locate the company file directory:

  1. How to find the location of your company file:
    • Choose Maintain from the main menu.
    • Click on company information.
    • Select the Directory option  to expand it so that you can view the full location of your company file.
  2. How to locate a remote data access company:
    • From the left panel, choose the Systems option.
    • Click on Company Maintenance.
    • View and note the location of the data file/company file.
  3. How to find the location through the new company screen:
    • From the File option, choose Open Company.
Note: you’ll find all company files listed here.
    • Click on Open an existing company file.
    • View the directory where the company file is stored.
  4. How to locate the company file with file explorer:
    • Press Windows + E, to launch the File Explorer.
    • From the top right corner, click on the Search field.
    • Select the option All Files and Folders.
    • Enter COMPANY.DAT  in the search field, and hit enter.
    • In the view option for windows explorer, choose Detail so that all the appropriate details about the files are displayed in corresponding columns.
    • View and note the directory where the company file is saved.

Here are the steps that you can use to find the location of the program path in Sage 50:

  1. Launch windows File Explorer.
  2. Go to the following directory: C:\ProgramData\Sage\Peachtree.
  3. Launch the Configuration File by double-clicking on it.
  4. From the list of programs, choose Notepad as the default program to open this file type, then click on Ok.
  5. In the notepad, find the DATAPATH= line and note the directory where the company file is saved.
  6. In the notepad, find the PROGRAMPATH= and note down the program path of Sage 50.

Solution 4: Fix the WMI File

WMI Files store essential information without which Sage 50 cannot function properly. The connection to the server will fail if Sage 50 cannot access the WMI file. If the WMI File is damaged or missing, then contact your IT Administrator or get in touch with our accounting software experts.

Steps to check if WMI file is damaged:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Input eventvwr and hit enter.
  3. Go to Windows Logs, then choose Application.
  4. View references for WMI files.
  5. Contact our IT professionals if you find WMI files mentioned in the error logs.

Solution 5: End all background processes for Sage 50

An already running background process of Sage 50 can interfere with the second instance that you’re accessing. So make sure that only one instance of the program is working at a single time. You can do this through the task manager.

Steps to end the processes for Sage 50:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Escape.
  2. Click on More Details.
  3. Click on the Details tab.
  4. Choose the Peachw.exe processes.
  5. Click on End task.
  6. Repeat for each process of Sage 50.
  7. Verify that you can access the company file data.

Solution 6: Alter the network protocol for your system

Sage 50 has encountered problems because of the IPv6 network protocol. If Sage cannot connect to the server containing the company file, then change the network preference, then verify the problem.

Steps to change network protocol preference from IPv6 to IPv4:

  1. Use an admin account to log into Windows.
  2. Press Windows + R to open the run command.
  3. Input Regedit in the text field, and hit enter.
  4. From the left pane, navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters.
  5. Choose the New Key option to create a new registry key.
  6. Fill in the following information required for creating a new key option:
    1. Key: DisabledComponents
    2. Type: REG_DWORD
    3. Value: 0x20

FAQ

  1. Why is Sage 50 unable to connect to the server even when the internet connection is active?

As mentioned previously in this post, various security software such as windows firewall may be blocking Sage 50 from communicating with the server. Further, if the connection manager for Sage 50 isn’t installed on the workstations and server computer, then you’re likely to encounter server-related issues because the connection manager syncs data between the workstation and the server.

  2. Can internet issues prevent Sage from connecting to the server?

Yes, they can. Because a connection to the server is necessary to access the data files, your internet connection must be active when accessing the company file from a workstation. However, if you’re a separate connection established with the server, a connection that does not rely on the internet, then you don’t need an active internet connection to access your accounting data.

  3. Is there a tool available that can configure the windows firewall to unblock Sage 50?

Even though there isn’t a separate tool for such configuration, you can use the setup for Sage 50 to configure Windows Firewall. When you install Sage 50 or just the connection manager, then you can choose the option to automatically configure the windows firewall. With this option enabled, the software will configure Firewall while installing any of the components for the software.

  4. What does the error message “Sage UBS no internet connection found” mean?

This error message indicates that Sage UBS is unable to establish a connection to the internet.

  5. Will reinstalling Sage UBS fix this error message?

It is possible that reinstalling Sage UBS may resolve the issue, but it is not guaranteed. It is recommended to try other troubleshooting steps first before attempting to reinstall the software.

  6. What should I do if I am unable to resolve this error message?

If you are still unable to resolve this error message, you can contact Sage UBS technical support for further assistance.
