  3. Choose Yes if prompted by user account control settings to confirm.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install .Net Framework from your system.
  5. Click on Finish, and restart your system.

Also, completely uninstall any previous versions of Sage 50. You can go to the folder containing the program and delete all the files within.

Sage 50 removing installation backups

Warning: Create a backup of your company file before following the steps provided below. A backup of data will ensure that you won’t lose your accounting data.

Steps to remove DSN and ODBC data sources from your system:

  1. Log into an Administrator User Account in Windows.
  2. Follow the instructions for your version of Windows:
    1. 32-bit Windows: Right-click on the Start menu and choose Run. Type in ODBCAD32 and hit Enter.
    2. 64 bit Windows: Go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64, and double click on ODBCAD32.EXE.
  3. Go to the System DSN tab.
  4. Choose the Sage Line 50 entries, and select Remove.
  5. Click on OK.

Steps to uninstall Sage 50 from Windows:

  1. Type Control Panel in the Start menu search bar.
  2. Click on the Control Panel option.
  3. Choose Programs and Features from the available list.
  4. Select Sage 50 and click on Uninstall.

Here’s a list of files that you need to delete:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Sage SBD
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage EBanking
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Sage Report Designer 2007
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Sage Line50
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Sage Shared

The two Sage shared files that you need to remove:

  • C:\Windows\Assembly\sage.*
  • C:\Windows\Assembly\antlr.runtime

You may also need to remove the registry keys for Sage 50. Here are the steps for the same:

  • Hit Windows + R.
  • Type in Regedit and hit enter.
  • From the Edit menu, click on Find.
  • Type in:
    • Sage 50 2021 – {363A56EE-EF51-423A-89C5-B2494DCEFA3E}
    • Sage 50 2020 – {ECFE78AE-B220-4A07-8D53-A9DD5A97269C}
    • Sage 50 2019 – {FAAEBF68-EC88-4147-B08F-A25DE8F3A005}
    • Sage 50 2018 – {CDB21C1F-4317-4A76-8711-50F9FCF30542}
    • Sage 50 2017 – {040522E9-CDA8-495B-941D-8B4164A2CE49}
    • Sage 50 2016 – {3F4F1778-F87C-4B08-BCE6-1BF3E42F26BD}
  • Hit Delete.
  • Click on Find Next to find the next key with the same name. Delete all such keys.

Steps to remove these registry keys for Sage 50 from your system:

  1. Browse to one of the files listed above.
  2. Right-click on the File.
  3. Choose Properties.
  4. Go to the Version tab, and choose Company Name.
  5. If the Company Name is Sage (UK) Limited or Sage, then right-click on the file again and choose Uninstall.

Sage is Stuck on Executing the Installer Application

This is another Sage 50 installation problem. Sage installers can get stuck at any of the three steps involved in the process. Many issues can cause this error. Most of these errors, we have addressed already, and you can find the solutions to them listed above.

Here are the steps if you get stuck on the first installation stage. This stage is titled ‘Installing Pervasive:

  1. Go to the task manager.
  2. Go to the processes tab, or click on More Details if you’re on Windows 10.
  3. Find w3dbsmgr.exe.
  4. Click on End Process.
  5. Repeat the step every time the installer gets stuck.

W3dbsmgr is the database manager for Sage and can interfere with the installation process. Remember that the error may occur again and again. This is because the installer launches the database manager which in turn blocks the installation. The only way around this error is to simply keep ending the process of database manager through the task manager.
This is an often occurring problem and can be easily resolved. Also, if you’re prompted to run Actian Zen as a service, click on Allow.

Steps to download Sage 50 on your system:

  1. Download Sage 50 setup.
  2. Choose a directory to which you want to save the setup for Sage 50.
  3. Click on Save.

Steps to install Sage 50 on a single computer:

  1. Double-click on the Sage 50 setup file to launch the setup.
  2. Install the individual components required to install Sage 50.
  3. Pause your antivirus program, and click on Next.
  4. Agree to the Terms and Conditions, then choose Next.
  5. Choose the option, “Auto configure the Windows Firewall to allow install and run Sage 50 (recommended)”, then choose Next.
    Note: manually configuring a Windows firewall can be really difficult, so use the installer to configure the firewall for you.
  6. Input the serial number or activation key, and click on Next.
  7. When prompted with “Will this be the only computer running Sage 50?”, click on Yes, then Next.
  8. In the Install Options window, choose the location to store the program files and the company files. 
  9. Choose Install.
  10. Click on Finish when the installation completes.

Steps to install Sage 50 on a server:

  1. Double-click on Sage 50 setup to launch it.
  2. For the prompt “Will this be the only computer running Sage 50?”, click on No, then on Next.
  3. In the Sage 50 Company Data Files Storage window, click on “This computer is the server”, and select Next.
  4. Recheck your selections of installation options.
  5. When the Sharing Company Data screen appears, click on Share the Folder, then on Next.
  6. Follow the rest of the instructions to finish the installation and then input the serial number and activation key to activate your software.
  7. Launch any company file in Sage 50 to upgrade it, or create a new company file.

Steps to install Sage 50 on network workstations:

  1. Use the instructions provided by the installer to proceed with the installation.
  2. Go to \\[nameofyourserver]\PeachtreeInstaller20xx\ and double-click on ClientInstall.bat.
    • Alternatively, you can double-click on Setup.exe in the same directory and launch the ClientInstall file.
    • Choose No when prompted “Will this be the only computer running Sage 50?”. Click on Next.
    • Choose the option “A different computer on the network is the server and will store Sage 50 company files.”
    • Choose “I confirm that Sage 50 has already been installed on the server.” Click on Next.
  3. Choose the directory in which you want to install Sage 50.
  4. Follow the same instructions to install Sage 50 on each of the workstations.

You can use UNC paths to choose a company file location. Steps to use UNC path to install Sage 50:

  1. While installing Sage 50, in the Company Data Files location window, click on Browse.
  2. In the input box, enter the server’s IP address or the name of the server.
  3. Recheck the location for the company file in the bottom right corner of the installer window.
  4. Input the credentials to log into the server, then choose OK.
  5. Click on Install after verifying your selections.
